THE DISTINCTIVE FUNCTION OF EDUCATION IN SOCIAL RECONSTRUCTION

This article constituted a paper read to the Far Western Philosophy of Education Society, University of Southern California, December 21, 1953. Mr. Burns presents the Reconstructionist's view that the distinctive function of education in social reconstruction must go beyond a renewed emphasis on experimental methodology to the creation of and commitment to ends evaluated by social consensus.
