A Study of the Effect of Text Connective-oriented Instruction on the Reading Proficiency of Non-English Majors

Text connective,as a cohesive device,is defined as a way of setting up logical relations that characterize sentences and clause complexes in the absence of the structural relationships,and therefore,it plays an essential part in creating the texture.The study of the effect of text connective-oriented instruction on non-English majors' reading proficiency showed that the method,when integrated with the technique of consciousness raising,helped students understand the underlying thought patterns responsible for the composition of discourse,develop coherent thinking ability,improve confidence in their reading,and as a result,produced a better effect on their reading ability.
