Abstract: | One of the important features of universities is their existence as major places of employment for persons involved in many of the arts and the sciences. Seen in this context, the problem of academic property has emerged and has taken on importance along with the emergence of the private alternative in higher education. Thus certain controversies have erupted in Romania. These have been linked to the right of academics to market their knowledge as “higher education” and to teach outside their “principal” universities. This article also investigates the duality of the higher education market as a market driven by prestige and/or by money, as well as the position of academic property in this context. |
