On Gender Discourse Power in John Barre Kang

For a long time, the traditional interpretation of one of Jack London＇s works entitled as John Barre Kang includes roughly the following aspects： on the first hand, it is regarded merely as London＇s biographies or the first hand material for the study of London as a writer;, on the other hand, it is considered only to be an exact documentary of the Prohibition Movement. Due to the lack of profound criticism of the work in itself, some scholars tried to make new interpretation of the work from the perspective of cultural studies. The paper tries to interpret the work from the perspective of discourse power, focused both London＇s unique ID showed in the work and the various discourses prevalent at the turn of 19th century. Specifically, the paper focuses on London＇s attitudes towards and opinions of issues, such as race, class, gender, sex and so on, with aim at understanding of the meaning of his ID and the gender discourse power in the work.
