试论中国古代历史编纂的致用传统

先秦时期的以史为鉴思想,尤其是孔子的以史经世的政治追求对后世影响极其深远。自此以后,有成就的史家莫不把以史经世作为著史目的。在传统史学中,史学的经世功能几乎被推崇到极致,因此从事历史编纂自然也就成了一件十分神圣的事业,千百年来一直激励着无数学人为之奋斗不息,成为史学繁荣的内在动力。然而由于过于注重求用而忽视求真,也使中国传统史学始终不能健康地发展。
