Dong Zhongshu shows quite strong subjectivity in the explanation of the Spring and Autumn Annals and the Gongyang Commentary.This is based on his aims of the explanation.The first aim is that ideas of the Spring and Autumn Annals and the Gongyang Commentary were theorized about and systematized.The second aim is that he constructed his own ideological system and founded classical,authoritative grounds for it.The third aim is that he built theoretical foundations for the general unitary political system of autocratic monarch,and applied theoretical ideas of the Spring and Autumn Annals and the Gongyang Commentary in practice in order to expound and solve important social and political problems,which displays fully applied function of advancing with each passing era in the theory of the explanation.
