| Abstract: | James Joyce manipulates his predecessors' works to frame his own so that he can enrich the content of his works. In A Portrait, the rose plays an important part in the development of both structure and theme, in addition to the psychological development of Stephen. This paper is intended to explore these in such aspects as symbols, "significant form," and its aesthetic effects. |
