On the Cultural Meanings of Gender Narrative in the Novels of New Sensationalist

This article considers the dialogue and interaction between sexes as a potential context in the novels of New Sensationalist, and discusses the cultural meanings of the gender narrative. The female rhetoric in the novels of New Sensationalist was represented as the isomorphic relationship between city and women, as well as the compensatory relationship between urban and rural. By means of gazing, scopophilia and disenchantment, male narrators projected the sexual visions and power imagine on the female objects within the somatic discourse, and constructed themselves though the tactics of Misogyny, Sexual sadism and Salvation. The writing of sexes stalemate, as well as the vague national consciousness and ambiguous colonized expression, revealed the imaginative consistency between modern China and progressive West, and then provided a new valid basis to support the traditional patriarchy.
