An analysis of phatic inquiries in the opening of Chinese letters

Phatic communion has been viewed as a common language phenomenon in human interaction,and it bears highly-routine linguistic forms.Inquiries in the opening of Chinese letters are one of the central aspects of phatic communion.Governed by the social norms,written inquires with different ritual linguistic patterns and lexis express the Chinese writer's perception of the relation with the recipient and his/her determination in maintaining social contact and appropriate interaction between each other.Findings support the argument that phatic communion is formed during the course of human social contact and shaped with certain linguistic structures,marking pragmatically compared to some other speech acts.
