Integrating Language Arts and Author Studies --A Sample Maurice Sendak Study

This paper attempts to establish that integrating author study and language arts instruction is a feasible and effective approach to holistic language development of English majors in freshmen and sophomore classes, and that picture storybook writer/illustrator studies particularly meet the needs of freshmen and sophomore English classes. Then it uses a Maurice Sendak study as an example to discuss how to design an author study. Discussions are devoted to the choice of genre, author and titles,as well as activities and their goals and a detailed agenda on a daily basis.
