Beauty from the Moment of Negating: An Interpretation of Kay Ryan's Green Hills from Perspective of Cognitive Poetics

In Green Hills, the poet uses personification to map the social and cultural property of human beings onto the lifeless rocks, and then she negates the personified fact. This neutralizes reader＇s aesthetic expectation, but confirms a special natural beauty. The two psychological representations before and after the negation have produced a strong aesthetic tension which embodies the poet＇s ecologist literary outlook.
