A Glimpse in the Cultural History of Shakespeare:---Garrick and the 1769 Shakespeare Jubilee

As a cultural code, Shakespeare was gradually constructed since 18th century. The Shakespeare Jubilee in 1769 was the first ceremonial and festive activity held for the bard in history. The organizer of this event was David Garrick, who was the most famous actor at that time, and also an announced idolater of Shakespeare. The preparation and process of the Jubilee was full of unex pected incidents, but Garrick managed to overcome all the difficulties. Though it seemed that the whole Jubilee was a casual incident in history, but the influence was huge enough to make us pay attention to it.
