In the history of literary critique,the relationship between learning from our forefathers and self-innovation has long been a common topic.But Yuan Mei holds a unique understanding on it.This paper dwells on Yuan Mei's understanding of the nature of self-innovation,the principles and methods following the ancient.In terms of Yuan Mei,we should learn from more people rather than worship our forefathers blindly,have a wide knowledge so as not to be darkened by the ancient doctrines,and prize innovations and adapt the forms to convey the essence,so that the final goal of realizing self-innovation can be achieved.
