“A Question of Access”

This paper explores the problems encountered in cataloguingand managing a very diverse art collection. In a climatewhere time and financial resources are at a premium, it iscrucial that any software system being set up has longterm potential, and flexibility.The University of Liverpool Art Collections Departmenthas thus chosen to re-develop its existing MicrosoftAccess databases to contain only core data onindividual items, and then set up a more extensivecatalogue, to be published on the World Wide Web, using EAD.
