Abstract: | The fifteen components used for assessment in the Introductory course in the Department of Psychology at the University of Sydney for 1981 and 1982 were examined to determine their relative value as predictors of overall performance. Multiple‐choice tests were consistently found to be more effective than essay examinations but arguments are advanced for the retention of the latter with suggestions for their improvement. |
