FIRST STAGE OF REFORM OF GREEK HIGHER EDUCATION

In August 1978 the Greek Parliament passed Law 815/1978 concerning higher education. We present below the main elements of this law, which concerns the administrative structure of higher education institutions and the organization of the system of studies in the context of the general situation of higher education in Greece. This information is based on a report prepared by Professor Lyssimahos Mavridis, of the University of Thessaloniki and Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of National Education and Cults. The report was given at the 3rd Meeting of the Group on Reform and Development of Tertiary Education in Southern Europe, which was organized by the Council of Europe and held from 20 to 22 September 1978 in Delphi.
