| 摘 要： | 中国现代知识分子的"文化使命感",作为社会上的广义的"仁人志士"通常所抱有的庞大的"社会责任感"的一个组成部分,具有相对独立的价值意义,其整体上的思想质地,既有现代性与传统的贯通,又有西学特色与民族文化要素的结合,属于中国现代思想文化史上的一种新气象。在20世纪以来的中国现代进步知识分子群体中,胡适是最有清醒的、自觉的和鲜明的"文化使命感"的一位,他对于"文化使命感"的反复提出(从"为国造因"到"再造文明")及其践行,实质乃是一种"文化报国",即从深沉的爱国主义立场出发,本着对世界文化潮流的把握,立足于中国的国情(包括文化国情),而立志以个体的社会文化活动,报效于民族和国家社会的进步与发展(尤其是整体的思想文化建设,又集中表现为提高国民思想文化素质)的一种可贵的努力。如果说有什么"胡适思想"的话,此即"胡适思想"的精髓;如果说有什么"胡适精神"的话,这同样是"胡适精神"的最具光彩、也最具深刻文化价值内涵的一面。其实际的社会影响,已经构成了当代中国的"从‘五四’开始形成的新文化传统"之一。
