清政府撤回首批留学生之原因探析

1872年清政府向美国派出了首批留学生，这是近代中国第一次由政府正式向海外派出留学生。这一举动从此开启了中国近代留学生运动之先河。但令人遗憾的是，原计划15年的留学期在刚进行到第10个年头时，却被清政府突然终止了，留美学生被全部召回。本文拟从清政府当时内政外交各方面入手，对此事件做初步分析与探究，以期能从这一事件中更好的了解和认识当时的历史。

The Analysis of Qing Government's Recall of the First Batch of Students Studying Abroad

Qing government sent its first batch of oversea students to the USA in 1872 and thus initiated the movement of studying abroad in modern times of China. However, the government brought a sudden stop to this 15- year- term oversea studying program in the tenth year and recalled all the students,among whom,some had finished their middle school study and just had studied in university and some others were still in their middle school. From the aspects of internal as well as externla affairs of Qing government at that moment, this passage is aimed to analyze this event deeper with hope to understand it better.
