论英汉委婉语中的“更新法则”

作为社会价值观、道德观及民族文化的语言映射,委婉语是英汉两种语言所共有且使用频繁的一种修辞手段,它使用含蓄、闪烁的言辞表达不便或不能直言的事物或行为,从而使得交际取得良好效果。然而任何语言都是不断变化发展的,委婉语也不例外。本文从中文"生老病死"一词中"生"字入手,从多个角度对所涉及的中英文委婉语进行对比分析,探究相关表达的更新、变化与发展,从而验证英汉委婉语中"更新法则"的正确性及其现实意义。
