On the question of using the concept of discreteness in documentation science

The methodological problems of using the concepts of analogicity (continuity) and discreteness (discontinuity) in documentation science are considered. A new approach is proposed, according to which the concept of discontinuity characterizes the semantic rather than the physical component of signals and messages. The historical development of information digitization technology and the current state of the international information space are described.
