论中国现代性建构的文化战略

中国现代化历程经历了工具论和总体性两大思维误区.世界现代史向我们昭示了一种历史演进的新思维,即将文明转型看作是不同文明之有机系统的范式性转换.以此观之,从传统向现代的文化转型(亦即我们所谓中国现代性建构)正是非工具论、非总体性的有机系统渐进战略.这一战略的核心要义,是以建设性公民社会运动作为历史演进的根本性推动机制.非总体性有机渐进战略的实现以及建设性公民社会运动这一推动机制的形成,还需要某种动力.从作为战略的中国现代性建构角度来看,这种动力当为社会中层动力.社会中层,不是客观认定的中产阶级,而是主观认同的一种文化结构.事实上,在现代社会,欲使社会理性地、和平地、渐进地发生历史的质的飞跃,其真正推动者乃是社会中层.而社会中层价值,则既不是富贵光荣,也非贫穷光荣,或劳动者天然光荣,而是作为过程的劳动、工作、奋斗、创造光荣.

Cultural Strategies of Constructing Modernity of China

During 170 years’ process of Modernization in China,there have been two mistaken ideas. One is technology-oriented idea which believes in the Modernization with advanced technology; the other one is totality-oriented view which treats the process of the Modernization as a revolution instead of evolution. Nevertheless,the modern history has presented us a new idea which holds that the transition of different civilization is actually an ev olutionary transformation of paradigm among different civilized systems. As a result,the transition of traditional culture to modern culture,i. e,the strategy of constructing Modernity of China,should neither be technological oriented approach nor revolutionary characterized approach. The core of this strategy is to make the construction of civil society the fundamental driving force for the historical evolution. Several conditions are still needed to form such a driving force. One of the most important conditions is the impetus from the middle-class. The middle class here is not an objective social stratum we usually refer to but the self-awareness of certain culture structure. And such middle class is the true impetus of the evolution of Modernization or even history. The true value of such middle class is that they honor themselves as being a process of creating their own honor,which involves working,struggling and innovation.
