陈宝箴与湖南经济近代化的启动

甲午战前,湖南向以守旧闭塞闻天下.由于得风气较晚,加上湖南士民思想观念的保守与省署官员才能的平庸等原因,湖南经济近代化的闸门迟迟未能开启.甲午战后,清政府幡然变计,开始推行发展实业的政策,部分湘绅也逐渐由保守向进取蜕变.适逢此时,开明官员陈宝箴受命抚湘.陈宝箴大力倡导西法开矿,着意开办近代工厂,努力改善交通.在以陈宝箴为首的湖南官绅群体的共同努力下,湖南终于步履蹒跚地迈入了经济近代化的门槛.湖南的经济近代化属于典型的依靠政治强力自上而下启动的后发型区域性近代化.

Chen Baojian and the Initiation of Hunan Economic Modernization

Before the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, Hunan had been a closed place. Because of this with the conservative people and the lack of ability of the officials, Hunan was very slow in starting its economic modernization. After the war, the Qing government practiced policies of promoting enterprises. Chen Baojian , an open-minded official, forcefully advocated the opening of mines and factories after western modes and made efforts to improve transportation. With the co-work of Chen and his group, Hunan stumbled on its way to economic modernization. Hunan's economic modernization was a typical post-developed regional one carried on from the top to the bottom with the help of political strength.
