摘    要:中国文化走出去战略意义日益提高,而中国大学英语教育中中国文化缺失的问题又日益凸显,由此有教育者疾呼应调整大学英语教材以增加中国文化渗透。而本文作者则认为这建议有不合理之处,首先,中国文化失语症的根本原因是文化知识缺失,而非英语表达方式缺失;其次,在调整过程中,"具体选择哪些内容"和"具体在哪个阶段使用"这两个关键问题目前尚没有得到合理解答。同时,此类建议对提高跨文化交际能力的实际效用并不大。因此,本文作者认为调整大学英语教材以增加中国文化渗透应慎行。

Abstract:Though China is now feeling strong urge to make its own culture internationally known,the lack of attention to Chinese culture in Chinese tertiary education stands as a major obstacle as many university students are constantly found speechless when it comes to Chinese culture (the so--called "cultural aphasia"). This leads many educators to suggest that knowledge on Chinese culture should be included in college English textbooks. This paper,however,argues that this suggestion is not without serious defects. This is because first,"cultural aphasia" stems from lack of cultural knowledge rather than lack of English expressionstsecond,two crucial questions,namely "what content to be used" at "what level" are still in want of convincing solutions. Meanwhile,this suggestion contributes very little to students' cross cultural communicative competence. Therefore,this paper comes to the conclusion that a lot of consideration will have to be made before this suggestion is taken.
