日本帝国主义与台湾铁路

近代台湾的铁路是在台湾沦为日本殖民地的特殊历史条件下发展起来的。日本帝国主义为了巩固对台湾的殖民统治，把台湾变成日本工业品的销售市场和原料来源地，极力在台湾修筑铁路。台湾铁路的延伸与日本对台湾的掠夺和控制有着密切的关系。在日本统治期间，台湾铁路担负着对日输出煤炭、砂糖、大米等物资和输入日本工业品的繁重任务。

JAPANESE IMPERIALISM AND TAIWAN RAILROADS

Taiwan' railroads in modern time developed under the condition when Taiwan was under the occupation of the Japanese imperialists. The Japanese imperialists, in order to consolidate their colonial rule in Taiwan, made Taiwan the source of raw materials and built railroads on the island. The extension of railroads in Taiwan was bound up with the Japanese imperialists' plunder and control over Taiwan. Under the Japanese rule, Taiwan's railroads took up the responsibilities of exporting coal, sugar and rice to Japan, and importing industrial products from Japan.
