门荫,是封建官僚子弟凭借先人之功绩循例而仕的一种选官制度.至唐而完备。用荫原则体现了严格的等级制。门荫给高官后代提供优先充作各阶层官僚以特权.同时也使他们享有经济的免役权。门荫制随着社会的发展,出现衰退的趋势。

The Menyin System of the Tang Dynasty

Menyin, which was an official system through which sons of feudal bureaucrats would be officials depending on their forefathers'contributions, attained its perfection in the Tang Dynasty. The principle of the official system reflected strict hierarchy. Menyin offered later generations of higher officials a privilege to have priority of being bureaucrats of all social strata, and allowed them to enjoy the right to economically exempt fron service. With the development of society , Menyin showed a declining tendency.
