Universities Branch Out: From their student bodies to their research practices

Richard Levin,the President of Yale University argues that universities,as never before in the long history,have become instruments of national competition as well as instruments of peace-guarding.Of the forces shaping higher education,none is more sweeping than the movement across borders.The globalization has changed the research model of universities into the one conducted by joint efforts throughout the world,which is beneficial to the science development of human beings.Compared to the US,Europe has lost its competitive advantage.However,for all its success,the United States remains deeply ambivalent about sustaining the research-based university model. And all of these will serve as good examples for the function orientation of the universities in China and promote their cooperation with other first-class universities in the world.
