A Comprehensive Review of Chinese Scholors" Studies on the Han Army in the Eight Banners in the Past Thirty Years

The System of the Eight Banners has been one of the hot topics among the Chinese scholars since the founding of PRC.The Army of Han in the Eight Banners as one of the three major parties in the Eight Banners has been widely studied by the mainland scholars and has become the focus of academic debate since the reform and opening to the outside world. The paper is aimed to present an overview on the research work conducted by Chinese scholars, which mainly includes the studies on the estab-lishment of the Army of Han in Eight Banners (including when it was set up, what is the origin of its name, and how it is related to Dutch Cannons),its relationships with the Eight Banners Manchu, and with Eight Banners Mongolia, the collapse of the Han Army in the Eight Banners and its historical roles.
