岳阳是由来已久的港口城市

岳阳通江达海、南极潇洒，承东启西、外引内联，其水运条件可谓得天独厚，素有湘北门户之称。从先秦到现代7个时期岳阳港口的发展情况来看，岳阳自古就是一个港口城市。岳阳成为港口城市有两个重要原因：一是濒湖扼江，位置独特；二是腹地广阔，物产丰富。

A Study of Yueyang as an Age-old Port City

Yueyang, connecting to the river and sea, reaching the Xiao and Xiang River, bridging the east and west, has long been known as the North Gateway of Hunan Province. The study of history is to get a better thinking terrace and a reference background for contemporary social practice. Based on a large amount of literature, this paper was divided into seven parts from the Qin Dynasty to the modern to research and expound the development of Yueyang port. It concluded that Yueyang had always been a port since ancient times. At the same time, it suggested important reasons for Yueyang to become a port： The first is for its unique location that adjacent to lake and river; the second is for its broader hinterland and supply of products.
