Haplology in Get-type Double Object Construction

The term haplology is used to describe processes by which a whole syllable is deleted before or after a phonetically similar or identical syllable. Haploiogy does play a role in some of the Chinese language phenomenon, such as double object construction. The present paper focuses on its application in get-type double object constructions and argues that haplology exists in get-type double object constructions. Get-type double object constructions are not formed simply by omitting ＂de＂ in relevant single object constructions. Single object construction and get-type double object construction has different event structure. Single object construction only encodes one event while get-type double object construction encodes two related events.
