Abstract: | In the first part of this article, the principles of functioning of the solid acid catalysts, their nature and preparation of a few types were described. In this part, some practical examples of such catalysts employed in the synthesis of several organic compounds are presented, which illustrate the extent to which catalysts help reduce pollution, cut costs of production, etc., that are important principles of Green Chemistry. Leena Rao is Reader, Department of Chemistry, SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sion, Mumbai. Her current research interests are green technologies in synthetic organic chemistry. She is actively associated with Bombay Association of Science Educaion, Mumbai. |
