试论修昔底德的宗教观

修氏在分析和解释历史事件时自觉地否定了宗教神灵对人事的影响,并区分了天人之别。他对神灵与自然界的认识较之希罗多德大大地前进了一步,表现出鲜明的理性主义和人文精神。但同时,对于宗教信仰在城邦政治和社会生活中的重要作用,修氏则是充分肯定的,这又反映出修氏思想深处对传统的认同。

Thucydides' Views of Religion

In interpreting historical events,Thucydides consciously denies the influence of gods on human affairs,distinguishes gods from man,and has therefore made a great progress in understanding the gods and nature in comparison with Herodotus.This has distinctly shown features of humanism and rationalism.On the other hand,Thucydides also thinks that religion plays an important role in the society,which has reflected his inner identification with the Greek tradition.
