周作人文学批评的宽容观及其矛盾

“五四”退潮后的周作人,缘于其思想上的保守,放弃了原先“为人生”的学主张,而提出学是作家“自己的园地”,是“表现”,并提出学批评要“宽容”,但他的宽容有自己的“趣味”限制,对左翼学他就极不宽容,理论与行为呈矛盾状态。我们肯定他理论中的合理因素,但同时又应清楚,他并不是一个具有开放的胸怀,能够兼收并蓄并从而构建自己理论批评体系的批评家。

Viewpoint of Tolerance in Zhou Zuoren's Literary Criticism and Its Contradiction

After the May 4th Movement, due to the conservatism in his thought, Zhou Zuoren abandoned his viewpoint of literature-"Literature for life's sake" which he advocated originally, and advocated another viewpoint of literature-"Literature is artists' own garden", "Literature is a kind of expression". Meanwhile he put forward that literary criticism should be tolerant. In fact his tolerance is restricted by his own interests, such as his opposition against the left-wing literature. His theory contradicts his action. We affirm some reasonable elements in his theory, but at the same time maintain that Zhou Zuoren is not an open-minded critic who is able to incorporate things of diverse nature to construct his own system of theoretical criticism.
