Hawthorne Academy: The University Perspective
Abstract:This article revisits the Trinity University and Hawthorne School partnership since the first case study written 10 years ago. This new perspective analyzes the teacher education program-particularly beliefs and attitudes about it and changes made to the program-with an eye to two primary themes: preparing future teachers and Hawthorne's Core Knowledge curriculum. To gain a varied insight, the second author, Felicia Frazee, a current Trinity teacher education candidate, surveyed and interviewed Hawthorne teachers. Ten years ago, Felicia and I visited Hawthorne together; next year, she plans to be an intern at Hawthorne. To better understand our latest visit, we provide a brief summary of the original essay, Hawthorne Elementary School: The University Perspective (Frazee, 1996), to compare the previous program description to the current program description discussed here.
