On the publishing activities in the context of enlightenment and salvation during the Republic of China

The Republic of China is assumed to be the great epoch of social changes, which is reflected in two main ideological or cultural themes of enlightenment and salvation. Books and magazines as the major media play a significant role. Western ideas are introduced into China, with science and democracy gradually rooted in the human minds, and feudalism ruthlessly disgusted. Such is the way of the Chinese intellectuals' unceasing pursuit of enlightenment and salvation. Since the breakout of Sino-Japanese war, the Chinese people become united with a great vitality and courage. This has led to the coming of innumerous books and magazines, highlighting the salvation and belittling the enlightenment.
