章认为要贯彻江泽民同志的思想政治工作要走求实、创新之路的精神，必须把握好“高与低”，“虚与实”，“情与理”，“宽与严”，“有形与无形”，“新潮与传统”，“即时性与长远性”，“先进性与普遍性”，“强化与淡化”等关系，建立起符合高等学校特点和高等教育规律的思想政治工作的机制和体制。

On Some Relationships in Ideological and Political work of Institutions of Higher Learning

This essay argues that, in order to carry out the spirit of Comrade Jiang Zemin' s instruction that we must adopt a realistic approach and blaze new trails in our ideological and political work, we ought to understand and handle well the relationships between the following: lofty conception and down - to - earth approach; abstract style and practical work; sentiments and reasons; leniency and strictness; the visible and the invisible; the new trends and traditions; immediacy and far - reaching efforts; high demands and general requirements; intensifiedness and relaxed mechanisms. Only in this way can we establish a proper mechanism and an appropriate system of ideological and political work which accord with the characteristics of institutions of higher learning and the laws of higher education in China.
