学术、人事与私德：陈独秀被免除北大文科学长论析

Academy, Human Relationship, and Morality——On CHEN Du-xiu's Being Exempted from Leader of the Arts of Peking University

In the spring of 1919,CHEN Du-xiu was exempted from leader of the arts and soon left Peking University,which is his life's major tuming points.CHEN Du-xiu as leader of the arts did not devote his whole energy to leaming,which aroused other scholars' disaffection.Relation between the scholars in Peking University had been complicated in the early period of the Republic and the arts were dominated by the students of Tai-yan,most of whom were from Zhejiang Province.In this situation,CHEN was alone and was in deep disagreement with them,so it was difficult for him to go on staying in Peking University.He paid less attention to morality and lived an unrestrained life,which left a handle to his antagonists,thus directly caused his being exempt from his position.This case indicates the change of direction of Peking University from enlightenment to academic study.It also implied his ultimate choice to pursue his political ideal.
