| Abstract: | ABSTRACT Rather than being outsourced, catalog departments should become the agents for accessing departmental resources in a university or college. Trained, practicing catalogers are able to create MARC records that are a perfect fit for the OPAC. In an era of declining monies for resources, cataloging professionals ensure that all available materials are accessible via a unified database which is as close as any computer. Departmental libraries would continue to be in charge of all other aspects of their collections, but would not be responsible for loading information into the catalog. |
