Problems with the Basis for the Title Main Entry of Motion Pictures According to the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules |
| |
Abstract: | Motion pictures are usually entered under title. This cataloging tradition is examined against AACR2 and earlier codes to determine its source, and to assess the extent of its compliance with, or deviation from the current cataloging code. The authorship conditions of motion pictures are discussed in an attempt to establish criteria for choice of main entry that are consistent with general principles of cataloging. Suggestions are made for modifying AACR2 to accommodate the main entry needs of motion pictures and other works with comparable authorship conditions. |
