Abstract:The evaluation and eligibility determination of students with special education needs is a key step in special education provision. It plays an important role in the follow-up education placement, plan making, statistical data collection and government fund allocation. In China more and more attention has been paid to the work in this regard, and expert committees on education for students with special needs gradually come into play. This paper introduces the laws, procedures, tools and methods, and personnel related to the evaluation and accreditation of students with special education needs in the United States, where there has already been a mature work system. Meanwhile, it evaluates and analyzes its methods of accreditation, and concludes with some enlightenment including strengthening the guidance of policy and regulations, encouraging the participation of multidisciplinary personnel, focusing on screening and pre-referral intervention, and expanding the types of service for children with special needs.
