Spatial Narrative in "the Autograph Man"

The Autograph Man is the most controversial work of Zadie Smith,being praised as work with stronger sense of camera due to its skillful spatial narrative. The aesthetic significance is discussed from the angle of the physical space and psychological space in this novel.The theme of this story is social identification issue of the marginalized immigrants in the UK. It is argued in this paper that space narrative is not the skill giving up the cause-effect chain of plots but one making use of mismatching time and space. This skill may leave more room for readers to imagine and hence make them play more dominant roles in reading.
