自我意识是人类独有的高级心理机能,它何时起源,因何而起源,这是心理学、哲学、人类学,也是其他众多学科热切关注的问题.近年来,进化心理学家从进化心理学的角度对这一问题进行了探索,认为自我意识产生于更新世末期的直立人,是在对包括生态学压力和社会压力在内的环境压力的反应过程中获得的;它具有适应功能;而早期人类认知能力的发展为自我意识的起源与发展提供了前提条件.

Self-Consciousness and the Pressure of Choice--The Origin and Development of Man''''s Self-Consciousness in the Field of Vision of Evolutionary Psychology

Recently, explorations have been made into the problem of the origination of self consciousness from the point view of evolutionary psychology, and the findings indicate that selfconsciousness started from the erect man at the last phase of the Pleistocene Epoch, and it had started in the course of making constant responses to the environmental pressure including ecologcial and social pressure. Self-consciousness has an adaptive function, and its origination and development are presupposed by the developement of the cognitive ability of the early man.
