基于语料库的近义词辨析———对develop、improve、advance、enhance和progress的对比研究

摘    要:传统的英语教学在句法和语义层面对近义词进行辨析,但缺乏足够的实例进行论证。本文基于中国学习者英语语料库和英语本族语语料库,对比分析develop、improve、advance、progress和enhance五个动词的类连接和搭配行为。数据表明,中国学习者在这五个动词的使用方面存在多用、少用和误用现象,和英语本族语者的使用呈现出显著差异。文章最后探讨造成学习者不恰当和独特使用的原因,并建议将DDL引入英语课堂。

Abstract:In traditional English classrooms,synonyms are distinguished on syntactic and semantic levels which lack substantial evidence for support.Adopting the corpus-based approach,the present study,by analyzing the colligational and collocational behaviors of the five verbs develop,improve,advance,progress,enhance respectively,compares the Chinese learners' use with native speakers'.The statistics reveal significant discrepancies in the use of these five verbs,which mainly lie in Chinese learners' misuse,overuse and underuse.In the end,the paper attempts to find possible causes for Chinese learners' inadequate and idiosyncratic uses and suggests that DDL should be introduced to English teaching classrooms.
