| 摘 要： | The Drum Tower in Hangzhou has witnessed vicissitudes of history for hundreds of years. It was first erected in 591 AD. It went through many expansion projects and carried many formidable names through centuries. According to historical records, the tower was built for the defense purpose. The tower served as a geographic block. If the gate closed, it would be hard for invaders to get into the city.
