店员是近代中国颇具特色的职业群体,其谋生场所必须面对的各种社会关系,是考察基层群体生存状态的窗口。制度化管理规范了店员的工作、生活,店员逐渐成为有纪律、有组织的社会群体,在此基础上构建自身的职业与身份认同;制度管理中的人情余绪,掩盖了店员的个人欲求,底层声音淹没于政治参与的集体活动中。店员的社会形象、身份认同有着主动塑造的自身诉求,但更多的是精英分子生活观念及意识形态影响的结果,革命需要多于实际抗争。
