霍尔顿的缺失与找寻

Holden's Lack and Seeking

In The Catcher in the Rye, the absence of the two characters-Holden's brother Allie and his childhood girlfriend Jane is but a revelation of the lack of ideal, spirituality, purity, and "listener" , all of which as a whole constitutes Holden's great agony of the impossible persistence of ideal and the existential crisis as an individual. His wandering in New York seeking for what he lacks and attempts to get out of the dilemma and refind his own identity turned out to be a total failure, which is a tragedy of Holden's own and of the whole society.
