Abstract:This paper expounds the types of second language and foreign language teaching, analyzes and compares the differences between the second language and foreign language teaching systematically. Meanwhile it points out that the dialectical materialism ideas should be used as the philosophic basis of language teaching to direct the English teaching as a foreign language in China.
