YU Guangzhong's Prose under the Two Traditional Pressures

YU Guangzhong brought up that the modern literature was facing the two traditional pressures, those were Chinese Classic Literature's Big Tradition and New Literature's tradition after May Fourth of 1919. Those people who will innovate must have the courage of following tradition and replacing tradition. In this paper, I think YU Guangzhong's animadversion to May Fourth Prose Tradition and drawing lessons from Chinese classic prose showed a modernist's pursuing for creativity and individuality. At a concrete level, his prose were mainly literary homesickness and city topic, farewell pastoral sentimental appeal of May fourth prose by contemporary people's life experience and welcoming and refusing industry civilization. As to the relation of reasonableness and sensitivity, the prose clearly showed the author's well-versed cognition to Big Prose Concept.
