The Unprepared Discipline: Selection of Alternative Futures

The process of creating alternative futures, studying those futures, and selectively choosing the most appropriate future is not being done in the field of physical education. The purpose of this paper is to provide background information for those in physical education in higher education regarding futurism, futures research, and especially the consideration of alternative futures. This paper explores facts, concepts, issues, warnings, and suggestions in an attempt to develop a stronger appreciation for futures study, particularly alternative futures, within the discipline.
