摘    要:文章回顾了学界关于布鲁贝克在《高等教育哲学》中提出的“认识论”与“政治论”的研究成果,主要使用概念演绎的方法,阐释了“布氏两论”背后的实用主义基础。布鲁贝克基于杜威的实用主义认识论试图对“认识论”与“政治论”进行超越性的哲学解读,在实用主义的视域下,认识论与政治论的高等教育哲学可以同时和谐地存在于20世纪的美国大学中,为二战后美国大学的合法性提供必要辩护。关注到“布氏两论”的实用主义基础,有助于我们重新审视布鲁贝克的著作和高等教育哲学研究。

Abstract:John S. Brubacher introduced a dual philosophy of higher education in his work, "The Philosophy of Higher Education". He posits that higher education encompasses two distinct philosophies: one focused on "higher learning" and the other on "political considerations". For a long time, Chinese scholars have debated whether academia requires a serious philosophy of higher education, often overlooking the pragmatic foundation Brubacher used to reconcile these divergent philosophies. This article aims to elucidate how Dewey''s pragmatism reconciles the divergence between these two philosophies. Drawing on Dewey''s epistemology, the concept of "higher learning" is reconstructed in four aspects, addressing the divergence in two key areas. First, the continuity inherent in higher learning and its nature as an ongoing process addresses the issue of the effectiveness of knowledge production in universities. Second, Dewey''s emphasis on uncertainty and pluralism in epistemology provides a justification for the subjectivity of universities, legitimizing their active role in modern social and political life.
