圣约翰大学在中国教会大学研究进程中一直存有争议,其原因在于学校、校长和美国差会之间错综复杂的关系以及与中国文化之间相互不调和。因此客观评价圣约翰大学的前提必须正确地厘清这三者之间的关系。本文旨在梳理差会、校长和学校之间关系,从而客观看待圣约翰大学和卜舫济的历史问题。

An Interpretation of the Relationship Between American Protestant Episcopal Church, Francis Pott and St.John's University: With a Study of Francis Pott's School Running Activities

The study of University Church of St.John＇s University in China has been controversial in the research process.The reason is that the three factors,namely,the school,the president and the Church are entwined with each other,in addition to the incompatibility with the Chinese culture.Therefore,to evaluate the school objectively is to do that on the basis of clarifying the relationship between these three factors.This article aims to elucidate the relationship and to choose a proper angle to evaluate the school and the president.
